What do you do when you drop your iPhone 4/4s under water?

iPhone 4s Dropped Under Water - Waterproof cases 2

Don’t pinch yourself, or say Uncle or dig a hole and do “The ostrich”…You my friend are not giving up; this is actually happening: your iPhone 4/4s is wet and drowning!

So what does one do after tomahawk-dunking an iPhone into a dirty cesspool of contamination — or whatever you want to call a hot tub full of strangers watching NHL playoff hockey — give up?

I don’t think so mon ami!

Not with this quick remedy, proven to work for me; but, will it work for you?

1) Find and remove your iPhone 4/4s from out of water as soon as possible.
2) Turn off your iPhone
3) If your iPhone starts pin wheeling, or showing you that fibonacci-ish swirl, hold down the power button and the home button at the same time until it turns off
4) Swiftly remove your SIM card
5) Put your iPhone in a Ziploc bag of uncooked rice. Dry rice will absorb the moisture
6) Let it sit for 2-3 days and turn it back on

Of course, there are no 100% guarantees to this cure to a water damaged iPhone 4/4s. Another solution people look to is looking to into waterproof cases.

Good luck!

Tech Fans Demand Waterproof Mobiles!

Do you hear something, a faint cry over by that way?

In the distance, across the pond in Barcelona — a rigorous chant for “waterproof phones?”

Yes it’s true, people were up in arms for it ready for the waterproof movement.

At the Mobile World Congress (MWC), there was a massive demand for waterproof mobiles, calling out all tech giants to step up their game.

And who can blame them? Like the tech mob clustered overseas, I would also love to have the option of bathing in a tub filled with melted chocolate while zoning out and doing business on my mobile. Oh would this epic dream ever be a reality.

Surely, like the tech mob at MWC, I too have mourned and grieved and pulled a few strands of hair over the death of a cell phone. Two, to be precise.

All thanks to good ol’water damage: one in a toilet; one in a drink spill.

Whether the culprit is rain, a beer spill, cereal bowl, sink, or laundry detergent — “it” happens, all the time.

But “it” doesn’t always have to happen! Especially when research Perform Protect Improve (P2i), a company who has developed liquid-repellent nano-coatings, has given us a case for mobile manufacturers to cure our mobile-to-liquid aches and pains.

As seen in the MWC consumer demand for standardizing liquid-repellent mobiles, P2i’s survey reveals 51 percent of consumers have spilled liquid on their mobile phone: 30% water spills, 13 percent coffee spills, and 8% tea spills.

And there’s more!

64 percent of users are known to take their phones out in the rain, 59 percent in the snow, 8 percent into the shower, and 3 percent into the sauna.

Looks like I’m not as crazy as you thought — the majority rules: we want waterproof protection!

What is your water-damage mobile story?

Rokform Rockbed v3 iPhone Case Review

A hands-on review of the RokForm Rockbed v3 for iPhone

The delicacies of having an iPhone are abundant.  These sensitive smartphone devices are ruggedly sharp and potent with tech features unimaginable by our forefathers; but, most lack the daily grind protection of everyday use.  If your a busy-body on the go, moving from one place to another at unpredictable speeds, protecting your prized smartphone phone should be priority number one.

And hey, you can’t blame a guy for wanting to protect his favourite toys: it’s a dangerous world out there folks.

Here, we think we’ve found something special in the tough-sounding “iPhone case, the RokForm Rockbed.”  In thanks to exhaust manufacturer: Two Brothers Racing; operating under code-name Rokform; the new Rockbed v3 sets a new found standard in the industry of case accessories.

With competition hot on their heels, RokForm has managed to develop several models characterized as having a durable build construction composed of polycaronate, aluminum, magnesium, and even 24-carat gold. Yes, this is made in good ol’ North America.

The specs?

The Rokbed v3 iPhone case sports a skeletal cage that slips over the iPhone 4/4s as two pieces snapping together. The cutout areas seen serve as an access point for all buttons whilst providing comfort with a secure grip.

RokForm gives you the option to order out of a whopping 13 colour selection; crossing from white to black and everything in between.

Coming along with the case is the Remote Mount System (RMS) that provides secure instant attachment to anything and placed literally anywhere. Ideally on the dash of your car, a table oriented surface, or even your motorcycle the options are endless.

The four pronged mount slips into the back of the case ever-so smoothly and securely locks with a nudge of a turn. It also has non-slip grip below the RMS mount that keeps your phone steady while resting on smooth surfaces.

But Cellular Firm doesn’t give it 100% praise.

The weak points of the Rokform Rokbed v3 is in its design. Users may find it allows dirt and grime to build up. Second it doesn’t provide any water proof protection at all, but I’m sure the keeners at Rokform a cell phone accessory genius in the works; perfecting the next model.

With that said the case is easy to remove, so regular de-griming is quite simple. Retailing at $39, a small price to pay for around the clock protection.

Q4 results: Nokia is the World’s Biggest Windows Phone Vendor

image originally used by Strategy Analytics

Break out the champagne!

Nokia releases amazing Q4-results, winning the bragging rights as the world’s biggest window phone vendor. Of course, their partnership with Microsoft may be the sole reason the Finnish company has emerged as the world’s number one Windows Phone vendor in the world.

According to research firm, Strategy Analytics, Nokia has shipped 900, 000 Windows Phones, Nokia overtook HTC and others, gobbling up 33 percent of the market pie.

In comparison to iPhone with sales of 37-million in Q4, Windows numbers are smaller in scale but have risen at 2.7 million units, a 36 percent increase from Q3.

However, Nokia has only begun to focus of the US market, as initially, the European and Asian countries were targeted.

Strategy Analytics states that Nokia’s expansion of Windows 7 latest models like the Lumia 800 were the reason for the companies increased popularity.

Nokia is expected to launch at least one Windows Phone at the Mobile World Congress next week. As Nokia’s partnership has turned one, Nokia needs to raise the bar to be at the level competitor for the iPhone.

Here’s what Mainstream News Found in Foxconn, Apple’s Go-To Manufacturer

What did the head media honchos find in Apple’s manufacturing tree?

Between the Reuters, Bloomberg, ABC Nightline, and AppleInsider reports, here’s exactly what they found:

Reuters reports the plant floor was “spotless.” ABC adds Foxconn did not find any dire violations. While on the other hand, Bloomberg states there were a “ton of issues”, and a more detailed AppleInsider (AI) report goes on to accuse Foxconn of hiding underage workers.

According to a recent interview with the Students & Scholars Against Corporate Misbehavior (SACOM) project officer Debby Sze Wan Chan, stated, “the illegal workers were not assigned overtime or were sent to different departments, and workers were given 3 breaks instead of the accustomed one to prepare for the inspection.”

But by no means should this be a surprise. North American companies have gained notoriety of outsourcing labour to China. SACOM’s Foxconn employee sources have stated that they feel Apple does not care, as in-house Apple reps know of the harsh conditions and do nothing.

SACOM has tried to relay their findings to Apple, traveling to Apple headquarters to Cupertino, California; but, was immediately turned away by the front desk.

SACOM is not the only force trying to reform Apple but Mike Daisy as well. He leaves, “The Agony and the Ecstasy of Steve Jobs” under an open license, which means anyone can access it and perform it without any cost.

Apple’s iFactories are Foxconn’s…literally!

Apple received a lot of negative backlash last year, after their iPad and iPhone manufacturer Foxconn was caught working some of their employees straight to suicide.

Foxconn is Apple’s top iPhone and iPad producer in Chengdu, China and is one of Apple’s main manufacturing partners.

This story’s blogosophere hoopla now has reached new heights; climbing straight to ABC “fame and fortune,” so speak.

Correspondent Bill Weir is expected to unleash his new investigative piece: full behind the scenes access, indeed!

His footage caught a glimpse of the working conditions and operation lines.

Bottom line: Foxconn employees work 10 hours a day at $1.50 an hour.

Look for the ABC piece on TV called, “iFactories: Inside Apple” airs Tuesday at 11:35pm EST on ABC.
